Botswana Telecommunication Corporation Limited (BTCL)Acting Chief Executive Officer Christopher Diswai has revealed that BTCL made strides in improving regional connectivity.
At a three (3) day workshop on Regional Telecommunication Backhaul and Submarine Networks in collaboration with Southern African Telecommunication Association (SATA), Diswai said BTCL managed to lay down the necessary fibre optic backbone network throughout the country.
He also said the country has been connected to all its neighbouring counties such as Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
JOYCE MANASE-NTAU APPOINTED EBOTSWANA GM
Former Gabz FM Chief Executive Officer Joyce Manase-Ntau will from the 1st of November 2013 be eBotswana’s General Manager.
She takes over from Dave Coles who will leave the station at the end of October. Coles will retrace his steps back to ETV in South Africa. He has been with the station for the past 5 years.
PULA APPRECIATES AGAINST THE US DOLLAR BY 2.4 PERCENT
The Pula appreciated against the yen (2.9 percent), US dollar (2.4 percent) and euro (0.6 percent) while depreciating against the pound (1.4 percent) and the rand (1.1 percent) in September.
On an annual basis (twelve months to September 2013), the Pula depreciated against the euro (14.1 percent), US dollar (10.5 percent), and the pound (9.6 percent) while it appreciated against the yen (14.0 percent) and the rand (8.5 percent).
DCI UP 14.44 PERCENT YEAR-TO-DATE
The domestic companies index (DCI) rose by 0.03 percent during the week ending September 27, closing at 8 594.93 points from 8 592.20 points the previous week.
For the year-to-date, the index has risen by 14.44 percent, while the foreign companies index declined by 1.30 percent.
A total of 9 238 592 securities valued at P83 528 359 were traded during the week.
