Tourism Expo Botswana, a platform for tourism regional and international tourism industry players has been held in Gaborone at Game City Mall for the second year running.
The organizer of the exposition Alimah Anderson said the aim of the show was to bring various countries under one roof to lure tourists from Botswana to their respective countries.
This year tourism organizations from Zambia, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Kwazulu Natal Sharks and Kwazulu Natal Tourism board were at Game City Mall in an effort to attract tourists from Botswana to their respective destinations.
Anderson said, “These organizations are here to promote their countries as premium destinations.
Batswana, through this expo have travelled to these countries after learning about them from previous editions of my expo.”
She added that the expo exposes these countries to the untapped market of Botswana.
She says as a result many Batswana can use the expo to interact with participating countries and have a clear understanding before travelling to those countries.
“The benefits of attending the expo and using the accredited agents for travelling to these countries are that you get a discount on all travel expenses,” Anderson explained.
This year’s theme for the expo is ‘Bringing Tourism to the People’’.
Tourism Expo Botswana has a mission to continuously bring the local, regional and international providers directly to the local consumer and also to provide vital networking opportunities for the local trade.
“This is another way in which Tourism Expo Botswana is enhancing the local economy of Gaborone.
At this year’s expo we will witness the launch of the ‘destination Radio Show’ which is a division of Tourism Botswana that is dedicated to bringing a weekly 20 minute tourism show that will be promoting various destinations within Africa and beyond,” Anderson stated at the beginning of the event.
She said it is the intention of the organizers of Tourism Expo Botswana to have the expo recognized world wide as one of the strategic and effective tourism marketing platforms in Africa and the world.
The Expo was officially opened by Minister of Wildlife and Tourism Tshekedi Khama.
