Edwin Batshu commended business women for their effort in developing the economy of Botswana.
Batshu said this at Northern Women Exposition which was held in Francistown over the weekend.
The exposition was held under the theme ‘Empowering Women Entrepreneurs,
key to Sustainable Economic Development.’ The show attracted 150 exhibitors from the northern region.
Batshu said people should acknowledge women’s contribution to the development of this country. He said the main challenge business women face is lack of market but they should not give up as the ministry will support them.
“The government through Gender Affairs Department provides funds for women to assist them start income generating projects.
These projects promote better family economic status and reducing poverty by ensuring sustainable livelihoods. Women Expo is a strategy to give women entrepreneurs the opportunity to network, forge partnerships and market their products.” Said
Batshu He urged Batswana to support small local businesses by buying their products .
‘MLHA funded a total of 47 women’s groups comprising of 245 beneficiaries at a total cost of P8, 168, 720. In addition 15 NGOs were funded with P2, 362,905 to carry out support services such as beneficiaries training for skills and social development.’
He added Giving a testimony, one of the entrepreneurs Mokgadi Pie from Mosetse said the funding they got from the government helped them, five ex –teachers to start their business of selling bottled water.
