EVANGELICAL FELLOWSHIP BOTSWANA CONDEMNS HOMOSEXUALITY

Pastor-Isaacs,Matlhaope-and-RevAfter a long silence the Christian church has finally come out to express their strong opinion on homosexuals and lesbians.

Breaking the silence this week the Evangelical Fellowship of Botswana (EFP) which is composed of a group of evangelical and pentecostal churches in the country called gays and lesbians “unholy and against biblical terms.”

Addressing a press conference at Cresta Lodge on Wednesday, EFP president, Master Matlhaope strongly condemned homosexual lifestyles which he said were disturbing the peace in Botswana.

“To this end EFB believes that for Botswana to continue to enjoy peace and prosperity, Batswana must continue to embrace biblical truth in both their private and public lives.”

Matlhaope further said that it was the church’ strong view that homosexual practices were a distortion of God’s blueprint for human sexuality and should not be tolerated in a God fearing nation.

Taking a swipe at LEGABIBO, a lesbians and gay rights advocacy group, Matlhaope said: “For Botswana there can be no doubt that homosexuality and lesbianism are treated as anti social traits.

EFB therefore struggles to find a difference between a clamour for recognition by groups such as LEGABIBO and any similar clamour by criminal gangs or prostitutes in that all of them are morally challenged citizens.”

He called upon legislators to properly gauge the mood of the people on homosexuality and uphold the public good and not diminish it by allowing gays and lesbians to be free to practice their lifestyle openly.

Contacted for a comment on the matter, outgoing BONELA Director Uyapo Ndadi noted that it was disturbing that the same church which is expected to protect and care for everyone was the same one discriminating against gays and lesbians. He said the hatred and disdain for gay and lesbian people was in his estimation, ungodly.

“I say to my gay and lesbian friends that you have a place in the church.

Assuming that homosexuality is a sin, which I doubt, I say to you that the church is for sinners and not only for those who are spiritually upright for we are all sinners.

And a sin is a sin.

It is immaterial which sin people accept or condone or like.

In the church you will find adulterous, fornicators, thieves, drug lords and drunkards, sometimes at the pulpit,” he said.
