ATHLETE GETS RUSSIAN SCHOLARSHIP
Botswana sprinter Obakeng Ngwigwa received a scholarship to study at the Russian International Olympic University (RIOU).
He will commence will pursue his Masters Degree in Sports Administration this September.
Ngwigwa is one of the local athletes who benefited from the BNSC elite scholarship.
Through the BNSC grant, he studied for a Degree in Computer Science from University of South Carolina in USA.
Speaking to Voice Sport this week Ngwigwa said this is so far one of the greatest achievements in his track and field career.
He said he will be studying at the same time competing.
“I have always wanted to study for a Masters in Sports Administration.
This will help me achieve my dream of contributing to the sports development of my country.
I managed to pass an interview which was basically about leadership and sports development.
That was it. I got the scholarship,” said the beaming Ngwigwa.
BNOC Communications Officer Thato Utlwang said they chose Ngwigwa because he was eligible for the course.
She said the beneficiary was supposed to be someone who has represented the country in sports and also with a University Degree in any course.
“He is best candidate and we wanted to empower him.
The course will help him develop his athletics career and also develop sports in our country,” said Utlwang.
Ngwigwa is currently preparing for Moscow, Russia World Championships. He will be participating in 400m x 4 race.
Utlwang further said they also have Uyapo Nleya; a tennis administrator who got a German Olympic scholarship.
