Gaborone United has written to Botswana Football Association asking to withdraw their players from the national team.
United currently has eight players in the national team which according to head coach David Bright has hampered their preparations for the upcoming season.
“Our players have never been offseason. They joined the national team before we played our last game of the season and will only be back on 17th August, just a few weeks before the league starts,” said Bright.
The Mascom Top 8 Champions have Noah Maposa, Jackie Mothatego, Gaopatwe Seosenyeng, Moemedi Moatlhaping, Alphonse Modisaotsile, Tebogo Sembowa, Tebogo Sosome and Edwin Olerile who joined recently from cross town rivals Township Rollers.
“A player like Olerile needs time to practice with his new mates and if we don’t withdraw him he will never get that chance,” lamented Bright.
The tactician said they intend to withdraw all their players after the Zambia CHAN game to focus on pre-season preparations.
He said they are still waiting for the association’s response concerning their request and will then plot their next move.
“We understand that some of our players are key members of the team but at the moment we can’t afford to release more than three players,” he said.
The BFA could not be reached for comment. At the time of going to print the BFA Executive Committee was said to be locked in a meeting, apparently deliberating on the future of the national team coach Stanley Tshosane.
