After performing at Botswanacraft in a show that also features his father Steve Dyer and Lister Boleseng, Jazz pianist Bokani Dyer will get ready for the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz.
The young artist whose father lived in Botswana in 1982-86 was the 2011 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner.
Although he was born in Cape Town, Dyer is listed in the lineup as an artist from Botswana/South Africa probably due to his father’s links with the country in the 80s.
One would have thought after Shanti Lo made his debut in 2012 another locally based jazz artist will get the opportunity to play at one of the biggest jazz shows in Africa.
I’m just wondering just how many of our artists ever get in contact with organizers of such big shows.
Through the guidance of Soares Katumbela and perhaps the Swedish collaboration Shanti Lo rubbed shoulders with some of the best artists in the world and to this day the 2012 Joy of Jazz CD compilation is one of the priciest possession.
To get to these shows is not a joke; an artist should have proper management.

“There is still a huge gap left for female comics to fill in Botswana, and we hope performances from Amantle will encourage more talented female comedians to come up and show their skills.
Laff-A-Lot is always ready to help and develop talent, and also give a platform to all upcoming comedians so we build a vibrant industry”, said Bafana ‘Ribcracker’ Letsatsi.
Amantle will take the stage at Cresta President Hotel on Friday 02 August and at Cresta Mahalapye Hotel on 04 August.
