MATEBEJANE CELEBRATE A MILESTONE
Matebejana football development club will hold a tournament this Sunday to celebrate their 15 years of existence.
Matebejana have produced many professional and national team players among them Jerome Ramatlhakwana, Mosimanyana Moreetsi, Ndiyapo Letsholathebe and Jackie Mothatego.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Security Systems, BDF XI and the hosts Matebejana will participate in the tournament.
Games starts at 8.30 am with the hosts taking on Security Systems, followed by a clash between Centre Chiefs and BDF XI AT 10:30. At 12:30 Media Zebras will take on former Matebejane players to pave the way for the losers’ finals and finals at 13:30 and 15:30 respectively.
The tournament will be used to give Matebejane players a platform and an opportunity to be spotted by premier league teams.
Speaking to Voice Sport this week Matebejana Manager Tebogo Kamati said they are targeting school boys and out of school youth staying in and around Gaborone to start playing football at an early age. He said the club also helps to curb youth from the streets.
“The idea is to offer every player the opportunity to participate and play soccer at their own level of competition,” he said.
“We develop players from the age of 8 and BDF XI and other premier league clubs sign them when they reach an advanced age,” said Kamati.
He further said their products have represented the country at all national team levels, a legacy he said they intend to keep alive.
Kamati said they have programmes which meet the growing needs of young players who desire to learn the skills and fundamentals that will lead to a more advanced level of football.
