CLEMENT JACKSON ERA
He is one of the music veterans in this country.
Some of Clement Jackson’s music pals have long departed this earth, but the guitarist is still alive and kicking.
Jackson has just dropped his debut album titled “The daze of the weak”.
The seven track album can best be described as ‘World music”.
It is a fusion of local traditional music, Blues and Afro Jazz. Recorded live at Hi Note Studios under the brilliant ear of Tshepo Lesole.
The album features former MyStar contestant Osi, whose huge Gladys Knight like voice used to mesmerize the show’s loyal fans.
It’s one of those albums that have a lot of everything.
From Eric Clapton, Thomas Mapfumo and Kgwenyape.
Jackson although very much fluent in English, opted to use Ndebele and Setswana.
Having played the album throughout the weekend and analyzed feedback from some of the hard to please music critics, I’m now fully convinced that this is another Hi Note good production.
LIZIBO IS A BETTER MAN
There has never been any doubt that Lizibo is an exceptional singer.
All he needed was a good producer for his debut album and he got just that in Tshepo Lesole.
The album “Better man” came as a shock for me, I thought Lizibo would go the RnB way but no he went “Pop”.
My favorite song for some reason is track seven “Lerato le kae” featuring Refilwe where he touches on trust issues in relationships.
The Royal Tenors member may have struck gold with this album.
Another notable song is called “Zibo” dance where he features Vee.
Now this is one tune to warm up the stage this winter season. Give me Khona and I will reply with ‘Zibo dance’ anytime.
The title track ‘Better man’ featuring Zeus, show Lizibo’s versatility.
It’s a mellow song, with a lot of soul. This one is a must buy.
SAVED BY GRACE
Alan Ranthepa popularly known as Alan Kay to his legion of fans is a very talented local Gospel artist.
The God-fearing brother has released his debut album titled “Saved by Grace” and Wow! It’s really a good one.
Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just insert into my player and comfortably listen to from beginning to end.
Gospel music fans will recognize some of the well-known guests that have been assembled to play along with Alan on several of the tracks. Renowned artistes like Tshepo ‘T-Les’ Lesole, Trinity Mphoeng and Rev.
Thuso Tiego just to name a couple.
If you’re a passionate Gospel music fan this is a CD your collection flat cannot be without. In fact, this is one of those CDs that you don’t even have to be a fan of Gospel, or even a Christian to know is good. This is just good music. Period.
While the entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 1 – Jeso Fela, track 6 – Matlho a bona, and track 9 – Tsatsi ke lele.
