Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Botlogile Tshireletso has condemned rural youth for neglecting their poor parents.
Speaking at the handing over of 22 houses to Gojwane destitute people, Tshireletso said that young people in villages were in the habit of abandoning their parents when in need only to come back and take advantage of them after government had built houses for the old people.
These are not your houses, just stay away from them. Where were you all along when they did not have shelter? The worst part is that you bring your boyfriends and girlfriends to stay in your parents’ house. Find jobs, take care of your parents and build your own houses.’ She said
The 16 houses were built by the ministry while six of them were built by Tonota Sub District business community through Presidential Housing Appeal.
Unreliable contractors who abandoned implementation of the project especially after some of them had received payment did not escape the minister’s wreath either.
‘Local companies should take their business seriously because we are empowering them. If we give tenders to outsiders they complain. Let us work together to develop our country especially now that the government is making efforts to create employment for citizens.’ She said
In conclusion she urged the beneficiaries to take good care of their houses to avoid any form of vandalism to the structures.
