Boccim Northern Trade Fair speaker puts emphasis on growth
Under the theme, ‘Unlocking opportunities to a successful citizen participation in the economy of the country,’ the BOCCIM Northern Trade Fair celebrated its 19th edition last month.
Unlocking the fair guest of honour BTC CEO Paul Taylor gave a keynote address in which he welcomed guests and described the aim of the event as a platform for contributors, “to market themselves in order to develop opportunities for growth.”
He urged participants to ‘be relentless’ in their pursuit of worldclass performance, making sure they offered services and products that provide excellent value for money.
Making a reference to Francistown’s nickname as ‘Ghetto,’ he suggested that the term, “cannot be appealing to any investor.” He advised that the second city rebrands itself as the ‘Gateway to the North’ and market itself as a city that is open to trade, offering the potential of a “viable alternate investment opportunity to our nation’s capital or other cities in our country or the region.”
In recognising the private sector’s pivotal role Taylor advised the private sector to work closely with all. Adding in a passionate appeal, “ Trade that is free of bureaucracy and red-tape is key to transforming the economy, leading to greater diversity and growth, building long-term sustainability, creating positive social impact and eradicating poverty.”
In a rousing conclusion to his speech the CEO urged his audience: “ Let us be unstinting in our drive to move this country forward, unlock opportunities and build prosperity for all.”
