LESSONS FOR BOTSWOOD
The infant local movie industry (Botswood) could learn a thing or two from the vibrant Nollywood.
Nigerian movies have flooded the market and the demand for Nollywood movies continues to grow.
Despite the somewhat suspect quality, Nigerian movies have proved a hit across Africa including in Botswana.
Local actors and actresses should perhaps target the Nigerian film industry to advance their careers.
iROKO Partners, Africa’s largest source of Nigerian entertainment with its platforms iROKO tv and iROKING have announced a major strategic development via its entry into the South African DVD market and the launch of 10,000 new Nigerian movie DVDs.
Nigeria’s movie industry, colloquially known as ‘Nollywood’ is the second largest film industry in the world, producing around 2,000 movies a year.
The launch announced on Monday represents the first foray for iROKO tv, ’Africa’s Netflix’, into the sizeable South African DVD market and is responding to demand for even more Nollywood content in South Africa.
It is also a brand new distribution channel for iROKO tv as historically the company’s content has only been available online.
INTRODUCING 2 BEARD
It takes a gutsy artist in this era to drop a kwaito album.
If you have been observing the music trend of recent you will know that Kwaito has been having it tough in the market.
Basement Records, through the mentorship of one of Botswana’s versatile producers BK Proctor will attempt to normalize things through a new artist 2 Beard.
Born Pako Kegope, 2 Beard has just dropped a new single Leba Daah.
It’s a vibey song which maybe the reason Proctor felt the artist has what it takes to bring Kwaito’s glory days back.
2 Beard has recorded a number of songs since 2001and is currently working on his album called 1st BORN which will be released in mid June 2014.
