SURVIVOR REVEALS DETAILS OF LOVE RIVAL’S GUN ATTACK
A Gaborone man who survived gunshots has spoken of how he nearly died from a violent attack by his girlfriend’s ex lover.
Re- living his ordeal from the Princess Marina hospital where he is being treated for three gun wounds to the legs and stomach Kago Lebogang,31, told of how his love rival opened fire on the unsuspecting couple at a car park in Mogoditshane recently.
He says: “I had gone to collect my girlfriend Malebogo at Motiganz diamond polishing Company in Mogoditshane where she works.
At the car park I noticed that her ex boyfriend’s car was also parked there but I didn’t suspect anything.”
A few minutes after his ex-girlfriend had emerged from her place of work the spurned lover opened fire.
“He shot me on the thighs and while I was still reeling in shock he released another bullet which hit me in the stomach.
And then I felt like I was losing the power to breathe.
That’s when I heard people around me shouting that I was dead. I made a conscious decision to blink to avoid being mistaken for a corpse and probably end up in a mortuary.”
The jilted lover Ditshego Ketshabile, 33, turned the gun on himself and died on the spot.
“As I lay there motionless next to the man who had shot me I noticed he was already dead.”
Lebogang said he had met Ketshabile several times before and warned him to stay away from his girlfriend.
He said however his girlfriend’s brother supported the violent ex lover and even encouraged his young sister to reconcile with him.
“My girlfriend had said several times that she no longer wanted this guy but her brother liked him and encouraged her to reconcile with him.”
Meanwhile the woman at the centre of the controversy Malebogo Masase, 29, who was still struggling to speak when we visited her at Princess Marina Hospital on Wednesday said she loved her boyfriend so much that only death and not family pressure was going to do them part.
Contacted for a comment, Malebogo’s brother Mong Masase , 39, dismissed claims by the couple that he encouraged Ketshabile who was unemployed to shoot Lebogang, a technical assistant with the kweneng district council as malicious.
“All I did was to warn the new guy to stay away from my sister’s family.
She had a long relationship and a child with Ketshabile whom I knew as my brother in law.
I didn’t expect her to just dump him like that for someone who seemed to have just sprouted from nowhere.”
Mong further revealed that the incident happened before he had A chance to mediate between her sister and her ex-lover with the hope of reconciling the two for the sake of their child if not anything else.
