THE Botswana Congress Party (BCP) Member of Parliament for Okavango Bagalatia Arone has cautioned party supporters from being easily bought by the BDP.
Speaking at a rally in Mogoditshane to welcome BCP’s latest catch, Chillyboy Rakgari to the party, the man who kept many guessing whether he was going to defect to the BDP or not because of his alleged close relationship with president Khama challenged Party supporters to be more like the BCP supporters in his constituency.
His supporters he said were not easily enticed and swayed by material gain.
“I just wonder why you people are easily bought by the BDP. I just really wonder.
You are not like Okavango people.
Whether there is a BDP member or a BDP leader in their midst they never really allow themselves to be bought.
With that I am very assured that I am going to increase the voter’s margin in the next elections,”
Arone said before he introduced the party president Dumelang Saleshando.
Rakgari defected from the ruling party late last year and joined the BCP, He has since been reported to be eyeing the Mogoditshane constituency in the next general elections.
Welcoming him to the party, Saleshando described Rakgari as a no-nonsense politician who stands by what he believes in.
He said the radio presenter turned politician will go a long way in improving the standards of the party with his political comprehension.
“I have known Rakgari since his days at the University when he was the SRC president and by then he was of a diff erent party.
What made me get connected to him was his spirit of working very well with me despite our party diff erences.
He was very different and more mature than his age mates,” he said. For his part Rakgari appreciated the way he was welcomed in the party.
He said the party policies were better than those of the ruling party which were not accommodative to all.
“This is the party of choice and I don’t regret being part of it.
It’s not easy for one to fi nd such a party in which consultation is a priority and I also get to have a say in all what is decided within,” said Rakgari.
