The Ministry of Transport and Communications together with different ICT stakeholders will commemorate the annual World Telecommunications and Information Society Day (WTISD) in Shorobe this Friday.
The purpose of this event to be conducted under the theme “ICTs and Improving Road Safety.” is to raise awareness on the effects of ICT and Road Safety and the impact it has in driving the economy.
In Botswana focus of the WITS has been to reach out to communities that are still without ICTs, with view to introduce the use of such.
In line with this objective, the Ministry has mobilised ICT stakeholders to donate ICT equipment including computers, telephones, fax machines, photocopiers to be installed in public offices and Schools.
The 17th of May marks the anniversary of the signing of the first international telegraph convention and the creation of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The WTISD has been celebrated worldwide since 1969.
On the 16th of May the activities started with a motorcade from Maun to Shorobe kgotla as a way of further publicizing the event.
All proceedings were done at the kgotla where the Minister held Molelowakgotla with the residents of Shorobe.
Motor Vehicle Assurance Fund (MVA) Chief Executive Officer Cross Kgosidiile will give a key note address.
