THE ‘GO’ IN GOABAONE
Orange customer advisor looks to God for inspiration
Goabaone Benson Lenong prays to God every time he leaves home for work.
He says the prayer is not about salary increment but rather about good service and it makes him happy.
It has taken a while for the young man to agree to the interview as he has had to get permission from his superiors first.
As we are about to give up on any chance of featuring him in this week’s issue he gives us a call late on a Wednesday evening.
He’s excited that he’s been given the green light and he will stand a chance to contend for the prestigious The Voice Service Person of the Year Award.
The 29-year old lad joined Orange Botswana in 2010 on temporary basis and he impressed his employers so much that they decided to employ him full time as a Technical Customer Advisor.
“My job basically involves selling Orange products. I set up internet and other operations on handsets and explain whatever the customer needs to understand,” he says in a telephone interview.
Lenong who is a born again Christian and member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) says his spiritual background has helped him handle different situations in life including his customers.
“I was raised in a Christian family and I’ve learnt that God is the source of strength in every situation and I pray to him in bad situations and thank him under all good circumstances.
Customers are different and while most of the time I deal with more receptive ones, there are times when I find myself facing someone who is different to deal with.
In such situations I just stay calm and talk to God from within and it always works for me because no matter what situation the customer came in, they always leave smiling,” he says.
The reader who nominated Lenong described him as being friendly and going the extra mile.
“Benson downloaded everything I needed to get my Blackberry working and was more than helpful,” he said.
