MAN OFFLOADED AT MAUN AIRPORT SAID TO BE A RISK TO SECURITY
There was drama on Wednesday night at Maun International Airport when an Air Botswana Flight bound for Gaborone offloaded a rowdy passenger.
Thatayaone Oaitse, a Communications Officer at the Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA), who was suspected to have been drunk, was taken off the aircraft under police escort at the captain’s instructions.
Air Botswana’s Spokesperson Thapelo Leshoai told The Voice that Oaitse had to be offloaded because he was rude and rowdy.
He was a left behind after he went berserk and hurled insults at Air Botswana staff when he was told the evening flight would be late by an hour.
The airline official further revealed that once on board the passenger continued with his insults and even went on to verbally abuse the captain who immediately ordered the ejection.
“The captain made this decision because the situation posed a security threat to other passengers, flight crew and the aircraft,” Leshoai said.
Meanwhile BOCRA’s Head of Corporate Communications Aaron Nlebesi said that appropriate action would be taken after their investigations are complete.
He confirmed that an employee was offloaded from the flight following instructions from the captain.
Oaitse flew back on the national carrier the following day.
Asked comment he said: “Yes I was offloaded but the whole thing was blown out of propotion.
I am against my name being published.
God wouldn’t want such a story to be published so to pubslih it would be the will of the devil, let the will of God be done”
