JAZZ STAR NONO LEFT HOMELESS AFTER LOVER TORCHES HER HOUSE TO ASHES
Local jazz sensation NonoSiile was left homeless and without possessionson Monday night after her boyfriend of eight months burnt her rented three-bedroomed house in Kgale to ashes.
In an interview with The Voice on Wednesday the 33-year-old former Women of Jazz band member was still in a state of shock after her live in lover destroyed her house for what she described as, “a small argument that could have been peacefully solved.”
BoboZebe (34) faces up to seven years in prison if found guilty and has been held in police custody.
Describing her traumatic experience Siile said her boyfriend’s action was sparked by a telephone call from amale friendwho invited her over to his house.
“A friend of mine called Bushy called me at around ten at night and by that time I was already in bed with Zebe.
He just wanted me to come spend a night at his house because I had earlier told him that there was no electricity at home,” she said.
The call however infuriated Zebe despite Siile telling the caller that she was sleeping with her man and there was no way she could sleep at his house.
“Bushy started insulting him and by that time my boyfriend had snatched my phone and activated the loud speaker.”
Siile said Bushy then insulted her boyfriend with the words: “Keselomangsoneseo a mar***.”
As Zebe’s anger mounted he is said to have produced a knife,at which point Siile fled the house and reported the matter at the Gaborone West police station.
When she returned she was horrified to see dark smoke coming from the house, with the fire completely gutting the building. “I don’t even have clothes as we speak.
All I have is the pyjamas I wore when I went to the police.
“My belongings are gone.I was preparing for my next album and it won’t be easy because my mastered copy and bank documents have also been burnt.”
When The Voice team visited the scene, only a packet of macaroni and cooking oil remained. Despite the trauma the lady of jazz said that she was prepared to forgive Zebe.
“I know that God did all this for a purpose and has great things for me.
I will forgive my boyfriend but that doesn’t mean we will get back together,” she said adding that she was yet to meet her landlord who resides in Kasane to discuss the way forward.
Famous for her hit song, “Nthekele ring” (Buy me a ring) where the lyrics tell how she is fed up with her live in boyfriend who is showing no signs of making the relationship official, Nono could have never guessed what her unemployed boyfriendhad in store for her.
Gaborone West police Station Commander Agreement Mapeu confirmed the incident.
He said they were investigating the matter and if found guilty the accused man is likely to spend five to seven years behind bars.
“We have this case before us and we are still investigating, but in the meantime our suspect is behind bars,” said Mapeu.
At the time of going to print local artists had gathered to contribute money to help Nono.
