BRUISED: Gorata’s waist
FATHER OF STUDENT LASHED 8 TIMES BY TEACHER DEMANDS ANSWERS
A 16-year -old student at Marang Junior Secondary School in Gaborone is currently nursing bruises she sustained on the back when a form two teacher punished her on valentine’s Day.
The girl’s horrified father, Moses Mhateng discovered the injuries the same day when his daughter, Gorata, lay in bed in the evening complaining of back pain.
“She told me that her lower back was sore because she was beaten at school.
I then asked her to show me where she was beaten and to my shock and horror, I saw deep red swollen marks on her lower back and immediately took her to the police station to lodge a complaint before we took her to the doctor,” 36- year- old Mhateng said.
Gorata explained that a Form 2 teacher punished her together with a classmate for mistakenly sweeping some dirt towards her class which is adjacent to theirs.
Her friend was lashed four times on the buttocks while Gorata took 8 on the back.
“At least my friend was lucky to be lashed on the butt while I was whipped eight times on the back,” she said revealing her swollen wounds.
The Deputy School head for Marang JSS said the South East Regional Office for Education will investigate the matter before any action can be taken and referred all enquiries to the education office.
“What saddens me the most about this issue is that no one from the school phoned to tell me that my daughter had misbehaved.”
Mhateng who is still demanding answers from the school on why his child was injured noted.

Ao misterese mma, a bana ba tshele!! Mosetsana yo a o go thuba tlhogo he?

Kante what is wrong with botsadi ba malatsing a? Your child gets a whipping at school you run to the police! Really what are they trying to achieve? To get the concerned teacher arrested? To me this smacks of trying to show your spoilt brats how you can take the teacher to cleaners and has serious backlash. If you succeed, know that you have just ruined your cheild’s relationship with teachers for good.
Why cant the good parent go to the school and discuss this with the headteacher and the teacher concerned. That is how things were done way back. It did built a good relationship with the teacher-parent & teacher-child.
What irritates the most is that these parents who claim to be knowledgeble are terribly poor in parenting. Their kids are the ones with the worst behaviours at school. These spoilt brats are a menance and can tip the overly stressed teachers over the edge.
Mind you Im no teacher but have had some experience during my TS days.
this was realy terrible mistake commited by him/her (teacher).for me i think is better teachers be equiped with handling issues of such kinds but i think they are, mathata ke gore ba tsaya gore bana ba bo ba ba tlwaela an most of teachers had that mentality.
