The Macom Top 8 tournament gets underway this weekend with a double header at Molepolole Sports Complex.

Ecco City Greens will travel to Molepolole Sports complex to battle it out with reigning Mascom Top 8 Champions Township Rollers in a replay of last year’s final.

Mapalastina claimed the P1 million prize in the Tse Ditona tournament defeating Mamoja Diskie 3-1 in a pulsating final.

There is anticipation that the Saturday encounter under floodlights will produced the sparks witnessed last year.

As stated in their contract Ecco players and technical team will get 40% of the prize money if they win the cup.

Speaking to Voice Sport this week Mamoja Diskie Public Relations Officer Keletso Gomotsang said this game is a mountain to climb.

He said Rollers has always had an upper hand in previous meetings but was still hopeful come Saturday Mamojoa could turn the tables.

“I foresee a very tense match and I have no doubt that the boys will make us happy.

They defeated us in last year’s finals and we have an itch; this Saturday offers us an opportunity to even everything out.

We are going to fight with everything we have to proceed to the next round as our aim is to win a million.

It has been years now since we brought any silverware home and this is our time.

We should just forget about history between us and focus on the coming game,” said Gomotsang.

Despite the fact that they do not have much support in the south Gomotsang said that this will not affect their performance on the day.

He said the boys are psychologically ready as the issue was addressed during training sessionst.

The Ecco Spokesperson told Voice Sports that he expects new arrivals at the club Thatayotlhe “Pele” Gaokgorwe, Omaatla Kebatho and Batisani Josiah would that cutting edge that has been lacking in the recent past.

Ecco have also promoted goalkeeper Amogelang Pone.

Rollers however could focus all their energies on this trophy, as their chances of winning are close to none existent.

The Gaborone giants have a reputation of winning inaugural trophies and they will b e looking to at least go all the way to the finals to defend their title.

Their mentor Darlington Dodo said they are prepared and ready for the game. Dodo however cautioned his players against complacency as that could cost them the match. United.

“We have young players from promoted from the development side, I and the management were looking at the future, we want to sustain and get better position in the log standing at the same time planning for the future of the team.

That is why we signed these youngsters with at least three experienced players so that they can learn from them.

May be in future we will have a strong team comprising of people who really understand the philosophy of football,” said Dodo.

He said during the long break, they were training and playing friendly matches but are yet to test their readiness in a competitive match.

“I was only concentrating on combination play.

We also did rigorous training to maintain a certain level of fitness,” said Dodo.

The match kicks off at 1800hrs. prior to the Rollers match Gaborone United will take on Nico United at 1500hrs.
