HIDING FACE: Masilo under escort
No bail was granted for the phase four murder accused Thabo Masilo on Wednesday when he appeared in court.
His lawyer Samantha Mbikiwa stated that the defence could not file their bail application because prosecution has failed to furnish the defence with committal documents except for the charge sheet.
The former Botho College student, Masilo, appeared before the Village magistrates court on Wednesday afternoon facing a number of charges that include murder, rape, robbery and theft, indecent assault, house break-in and armed robbery.
Masilo is alleged to have killed a St Joseph College student shortly after she wrote her last Form Five exam on the 16th of November 2012 in Phase 4; He was remanded in custody ever since for his own safety.
Mbikiwa, expressed worry that to this day the defence hasn’t been given the committal documents and therefore appealed for the provision of such papers as soon as possible.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP)through prosecutor, Khumoetsile Tirelo stated that the accused has been booked for psychiatric evaluation on the 29th March and further argued that the psychiatric report will be able to state whether the accused is liable for bail or not
The case is expected back in court on March 6.
