The Department of Social Services held its third forum for stakeholder organizations providing care and support to orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) at the Gaborone Sun this week.
The National Childcare Forum has been held annually since 2006 to enable Non- Governmental organizations (NGOs), Community Based Organizations (CBOs) and Faith Based Organizations (FBOs) to interact with Government and other stakeholders in the area of childcare in Botswana.
The forum was also meant to provide a platform to access information on Policy frameworks, good practices and other relevant issues affecting service provision as well as to develop mutually beneficial networks.
Present at the official opening of the forum were the Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Olebile Gaborone, Margaret Mokgachane the Programme Coordinator (Orphans & Vulnerable Children), Ben Semamung (UNICEF), Mosarwa Segwabe (USAID), Dorothy Tlagae (PCI) and over a hundred other representatives of Government, Civil society, local authorities and development partners.
The forum was held under the theme: “Implementing a coordinated and sustainable programme for children.”
“Through this theme, the forum for this year seeks to enhance the coordination structures and mechanisms for provision of quality service to all children with one of their main objective being; ‘to review Draft Guidelines of the District Child Protection Committees,’ Margaret Mokgachane the Programme Coordinator (Orphans & Vulnerable Children) said.
