Following on from a long tadition of working to better the communities in which it operates, Metropolitan Botswana last Friday, sponsored the ZimBots Golf Society.
Metropolitan contributed to the ‘Sponsor a Child’ Charity Golf Day, held at Phakalane Golf Estate, to the tune of P4,000.00 per 4-ball.
The event, according to organisers, were intended to give back to society through the Sponsor a Child Charitable Trust, an organisation started by President Lt.
General Seretse Khama Ian Khama, a Patron of the Trust, in 1998.
Chaired by Trade Minister Dorcas Makgato-Malesu, organisers say, the Trust’s main objective is to encourage a coherent private sector and individual response for the growing number of orphaned and destitute children in Botswana.
Proceeds from the golf day are expected to go towards ensuring local children are provided with the necessary means and provisions to enable them to lead happy, healthy lives.
Said Metropolitan Botswana Managing Director, Oupa Mothibatsela, “Metropolitan Botswana is incredibly proud to be associated with this event and is especially proud to be partnering with ZimBots Golf Society.
This is more than simply another day on the green; rather, it is an incredible opportunity, as individuals and corporates, to empower and encourage young minds through the medium of sport.”
ZimBots Golf Society is a Botswana registered society whose primary mandate is to promote the game of golf. ZimBots brings together members from afar afield as Zimbabwe, Japan, Botswana, America, and Japan.
The golf day attracted the participation of numerous local businesses, organisations, philanthropists and avid golfers with an interest in investing in Botswana and Batswana.
Concluded Mothibatsela, “There is always a great deal of emphasis on the youth as being the future of Botswana and yet not enough is done to nuture and support them towards this goal. Metropolitan Botswana is therefore humbled and encouraged to be able to get involved in an initiative such as Sponsor a Child and to partner with ZimBots. This donation is but a small gesture to show our support for such a nobel and heartwarming cause. We look forward to this being the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship which brings empowerment and support to Botswana’s children.”
