Okavango Diamond Company (ODC), the Government of Botswana’s new diamond trading enterprise, this week announced a series of key appointments.
The new team members, covering a variety of positions within ODC’s executive and senior management structure, is expected to play a crucial role in building and delivering the company’s operational capabilities during the course of 2013.
The new appointments are Deputy Managing Director – Marcus ter Haar, former Head of Sales and Marketing at DTC Botswana and a well established figure in the diamond industry, Chief Financial Officer – Susanne Swaniker-Tettey, currently Chief Financial Officer at Boteti Mining Company. Sales Manager – Timothy Lee, currently responsible for diamond sales for South African mining company Trans Hex,
Operations Manager – Andrew Faulkner, a highly experienced diamond production expert from Diamond Trading Company.
Commercial Manager – Victor Potgieter, an industrial engineer, joins the team from Debswana while Security Manager – Shatho Sebina, a graduate of Sandhurst Military College and currently an executive team member with G4S Information Technology Manager – Paul Champane, currently Head of IT at Air Botswana

Together, these appointments mark a significant step forward for the company as we prepare ODC for its commercial launch next year.
Our newest team members reflect the rich blend of national and international skills that we require to build a sustainable and globally competitive new diamond sales channel here in Botswana,” said Jacob Thamage, Chairman of the ODC Board
Thamage further added that he was pleased that ODC has been able to recruit Marcus ter Haar to take on the key role of Deputy MD. “He is a well known figure in the diamond industry both here in Botswana and internationally and eminently qualified to help deliver the company’s ambitious business objectives.
With many years of experience in the industry, alongside a Master’s Degree in International Relations, Marcus will play an important leadership role in the company’s development and long term growth.”
Toby Frears, Managing Director of ODC, said: “The new team will join the company over the course of the first quarter of 2013 and I am excited about working with them all in this important commercial endeavour. To have recruited such a high calibre team speaks volumes about the potential of ODC and the dynamic future of Botswana’s diamond industry.
