ACCUSED: Mokganedi Pontsho and Kgomotso Mondela outside court
The parents of an 8-year-old girl have been accused of murder after beating her to death apparently for eating a piece of biltong reserved for her father.
35-year-old Mokganedi Pontsho and his live-in girlfriend Kgomotso Mondela, 34, from Tonota were said to have been agitated by the girl’s action.
It is believed that an annoyed Pontsho tied the girl’s legs with a rope. He is said to have then hung her facing downwards from the rafters of the thatched mud hut the family used a bedroom.
Sources close to the scene have described how the father apparently started beating his daughter Tumelo using a knobkerrie in the presence of the girl’s mother. He is said to have only stopped the vicious attack when she started bleeding through her nose.
But by then she was dead.
Pontsho cut down and untied her and burnt her lifeless body before burying her in a shallow grave in a bid to conceal the evidence sources have revealed.
The couple appeared in court before Francistown Chief Magistrate Peggy Madandume on Tuesday facing a single count of murder. They were not asked to plead to the charge since the magistrates’ court does not have the jurisdiction to try murder cases.
Mondela appeared in the dock holding her two-month-old toddler. She will remain in custody along with her baby and the child’s father whilst investigations into the matter continue.
The case is due to resume on 4 January when it is expected to be referred to the High Court.

What they did can ba solved by eye for an eye. Lets hang them face downwards and beat them with a knobkerrie until they bleed to death with their noses. Segwapa fela? from here they are fed at prison while the child is dead.
this is very similar to what happenned to late Nathan who suffered and died from his abusive parents
How many children are facing this kind of situation in society?
How many children will lose their lives before those in authority including those organisations that are supposed to be there for them do something to stop this??

I didn’t read anywhere where the mother did anything but cower away from her obviously insane and incredibly violent husband. I’m pretty sure that wasn’t the first time this guy took such liberties on the women of the house. I think they should be tried separately. The man as a violent killer, and the woman sent to psychotherapy to help her deal with the guilt and trauma she probably carries around with her. How small do you have to be to watch somebody kill the child you “carried for 9 months”. – Is there a doctor in the house?
