Maun Police are investigating a case in which a 25 –year- old member of the Botswana Defence Force died on Saturday afternoon after drowning.

Acting Station Commander, Assistant Superitandant Zhabi Hulela told The Voice that the deceased who was based at Glen Valley in Gaborone at 12 Inventory Battalion was part of the team that had camped at Kwando area on work related assignment.

“According to information that we have, the deceased had just arrived on the same day and was fishing with his colleagues in one of the rivers in the Delta when he met his fate,” he said.

It is not clear if the officers were using a boat or were just fishing by the river bank.

After realising that their colleague’s life was in danger, other officers immediately called scuba divers from Maun BDF camp but unfortunately they arrived a little too late.

“His friends could not help too because they are not familiar with that place and do not have any experience in swimming,” said the source.
