The scene resembled a funeral as relatives who thronged the court wept uncontrollably, some of them outside the packed court room.
Aaron Oduetse,20 and Gasebonwe Mathoiwa,36, who acted separately and did not know each other when they committed their similar crimes looked unfazed as they chatted away seemingly oblivious to the drama that was unfolding around them.
Oduetse is accused of murdering an 18-year- old police volunteer after dragging her to the bush around 2am on Saturday Morning.
Reports have suggested that the teenager could have been suffocated to death because there were no signs of injuries on her body. The two were lovers on the verge of a break up, a source has revealed.
Meanwhile Mathoiwa of Boseja ward in Maun has been charged with the murder of his former girlfriend near her home three months after she jilted him.
He reportedly dated the deceased for six years before breaking up three months back. A relative who asked not to be named said: “On the fateful day our family threw a birthday party for one of our children and Mathoiwa was in attendance but no one suspected that he was up to something.”
A neighbour said the deceased left the party with her new boyfriend but Mathoiwa followed them and attacked the two lovers with a spade.
He allegedly hit the woman first and she fell to the ground. He then hit the man who parried the blow with his arm and suffered broken bones. The two men then fought for a while until the new boyfriend ran for his life leaving the angry ex to finish the woman off.”
Both women were certified dead on arrival at the hospital while the accused persons were arrested at their places.
The two who appeared chained to each other were not asked to plead, remanded in custody and notifiedof November 13th as their next date of mention.
