An 18- year- old teenager who raped a pregnant woman under a tree near the Adventist church in Shakawe was this week convicted of another rape.
Prince Molatlhegi who had managed to get his first rape charge reduced to a lesser charge of indecent assault briefly celebrated before the guilty judgement was passed on his second rape charge.
The court heard that on the 2nd of November 2011 Molatlhegi dragged the 32- year -old pregnant woman to a tree near the church and raped her at knife point, while screaming at her that all he wants from her was nothing but her vagina.
A medical report however saved Molatlhegi from a stiff penalty in the pregnant woman incident because it showed that he did not penetrate her.
Although Molatlhegi’s defence was that the sex he had with the expectant mother was consensual Chief Magistrate Mompati Taolo ruled that the accused person be charged with indecent assault instead because evidence showed that he only undressed her and rubbed his private parts on her body against her will.
Whilst he was still celebrating and thanking the prosecutor Inspector Amos Solomon of Botswana Police Service for the quashed charge, Molatlhegi was convicted for another rape which he committed on the 1st of November still in Shakawe.
He was said to have violated another 32 -year- old woman at his house at Ndundu ward.
Again Molatlhegi tried hard to convince the court that the sexual intercourse he had with this other woman was consensual but failed. “We had agreed to have sex, it is only that I failed to pay her the P200 which she had demanded. I was her regular client,” he claimed only to fail to explain why on this occasion blood stains were found on the victim’s clothes.
He was found guilty and sent back to jail to await sentencing on the 29th of October for both crimes.
Meanwhile the teenager seemed to be having a hard time in prison where he was tattooed a penis on his left arm by inmates who told The Voice that the idea was to brand him after his favourite crime, rape.
