Gaborone United’s 100 % percent start to the 2012/13 be Mobile Premier League came to an end on Wednesday afternoon in Francistown. Newly promoted side Motlakase Power Dynamos overcame a 2-nil deficit to share the spoils with the Gaborone giants.
Before the match GU goalminder Noah Maposa had kept three clean sheets, but Oris Radipotsane’s side put on a sterling second half performance to halt United’s lighting start to the league.
United took control of the match from the first whistle and opened the score through Tebogo Sembowa who connected well with Mandla Mgadla’s 5th minute corner. Two minutes later Sembowa got his brace, profiting from a lapse in concentration from the defence.
Motlakase’s new signing Simon Nteleza from Zimbabwe Platinum FC who had terrorised the GU defence since the match started, pulled the trigger in the 40th minute, to give his side a lifeline. The game went for a break with GU leading 2-1.
After recess Chouka Chouka came back more determined to get the equalizing goal, and it finally came through a fine header from Qinani Sibanda, who reacted first to meet Tuelo Motaung’s corner kick.
Speaking after the game Motlakase coach Oris Radipotsane said he was impressed by his players’ performance for coming from a 2-0 deficit to force a draw. He said his team has conceded silly goals in the first 10-15 minutes of the game; a problem he said will be addressed this week.
“We do not have enough time to rest or train, we are like tourists we are always travelling since we do not have a home ground. This is why we sometimes concede silly goals which make our job difficult. Players are not fit we did not have pre season practice and due to issues that surrounded our football association we were not even sure when our league was going to start. I’m however happy with our combination upfront. Nteleza played very well dispite this being his first game for us, said Radipotsane.
GU coach Major David Bright said his defence was too casual and allowed Motlakase to find a goal that totally changed the complexion of the match. bright further blamed the heat for his team’s drawt.
“Players do not have enough time to recover but they should get used to the calendar of mid week games. That is why most of the teams in our league are very unpredictable they can surprise you. This kind of results are a wakeup call, this is a competition my boys should not be comfortable,” he said.
