ACCUSED PERSON: Emmanuel Makgetho
A Botswana Defence Force(BDF) soldier has demanded P200 000 from Emmanuel Makgetho an unemployed man of Botshabelo ward in Maun for marriage wrecking
Appearing before Kgosi Charles Letsholathebe of Maun Customary Court on Wednesday afternoon, 40- year-old Tuelo Gaogane, from the Donga Barracks told the packed court that Makgetho has had an ongoing affair with his wife for about five years.
The frustrated husband further alleged that immediately after he married her in 2007; his wife Hilda Gaogane (31) from Disaneng ward in Maun started cheating on him with Makgetho.
He said that after finding out about the relationship, his wife apologized at a Kgotla hearing in 2008 where he had dragged her.

“I forgave her because we were newlywed and I did not want to cause any embarrassment to our families but the two love cheats did not bother to stop their affair.”
Gaogane brought four witnesses before court among them Boitumelo Makgetho (52) an aunt to the accused person and Hilda’s mother,Okgabile Nkarabang (48).
Both witnesses told the court of how the love affair between the two had become an open secret and how family members have tried hard to stop them without much success.
“Hilda would visit us from Francistown with her kids but the moment she arrived, Makgetho would come to collect her. I tried warning her to desist from such unbecoming behaviour for a married woman in vain,” said Hilda’s mother.
Nkarabang further revealed that she once threatened Hilda that she would report the affair to her husband but she continued without shame. Boitumelo on the other hand revealed that she even once threw Hilda out from her place but she continued visiting even at night.
“I asked Emmanuel (accused person) why he was dating a married woman but he claimed that Hilda was a divorcee. When I established that he lied I told the woman not to set her foot in my place ever again but she defied me and continued to sneak in at night.”

When asked if he had any questions to ask the witnesses Makgetho had none except to deny ever knowing Hilda. The court was adjourned to Thursday when two more witnesses were expected to give evidence.
After court Gaogane told The Voice that he suspected that their last born twins were not even his because they looked like the accused person.
“ I am not here to divorce but I want P200 000 for marriage wrecking because things are not fine In my family and one of our last born twins looks so much like Makgetho.” The soldier from Mmutlane village and father of four kids promised to fight until he got his compensation which he termed, ‘not negotiable.’ Hilda was not present in court.
