LOVE GONE SOUR: Pooyane and Lebekwe

Jilted lover demands gifts from ex-boyfriend

A jilted lover, Gaaratwe Lebekwe has filed a court case against her ex-boyfriend Phetogo Poonyane demanding underwear and other items she bought for him.

Presenting her case before Urban Court President Dikwalo Monametsi on Tuesday, Lebekwe who is employed as a cleaner at the Gaborone City Council demanded back from Poonyane, a security guard, two pairs of jeans valued at P79 each, two shirts that cost P120, a pair of socks at P35, trainers valued at P178, sandals at P90, cell phone at P499, P80 cash and five pairs of under wear worth P35. The total amount of the stuff she wanted back was P1471.90.

The jilted woman’s demands for worn underpants however sent Court President Monametsi into fits of laughter, but not Poonynae who sat silently on the bench, looking embarrassed

“Is it true that she bought you all those things,” asked Monametsi to which Poonyane concurred.

When given a chance to cross examine his former live-in girlfriend, Poonyane asked her if she had given him the clothes as a present or a loan?

“The clothes I bought you were gifts, only because you were still with me. I wanted you to look nice for me but now that you are no longer with me, I want them back, “said Lebekwe.

Monametsi explained to Poonyane that what his ex-girlfriend wanted him to understand was that now that he has a new girlfriend, the responsibility of how good he looks should solely fall on the shoulders of his new catch.

“If she bought you all these things and now she wants them back, why don’t you just give them back?” he asked.

Poonyane however argued that his ex had confiscated most of the stuff from his house already and was just harassing him.

“She took two pairs of jeans and four pairs of underwear. She is lying about the pots and the cell phone. I sent her to buy the pots with my own money and we exchanged cell phones because she said hers was too sophisticated for her,” he said.

“You said she took four pairs of underwear, what happened to the fifth pair?” asked Monametsi, a question that seemed to embarrass the already shamed Poonyane even more.

The case was postponed to mid October when Poonyane would be expected to call his current girlfriend to give evidence to the effect that his ex took most of the stuff she is currently demanding from him.
