It is arguably the biggest and most anticipated show in the country.

The mouthwatering line up will see Nigerian Davido making his first appearance in the country. The much celebrated Nigerian will be accompanied by 10 more international artists that include The Layabouts, Euphonok, Cleo, Reel People and DJ Fresh. 20 of the hottest local Djs and artists will also grace the occasion to entertainment thousands of people expected to turn up for the event. Oh boy, what a way to start the Independence celebrations.
MAUN 2ND ANNUAL SPRING BASH
This year’s Annual Boipuso Spring Bash in Maun has all the hallmarks of a great show.
Despite the unavailability of the Big Brother Stars who were billed to make an appearance at the show, the bash still have enough stars to make it a success. Name Stiga Sola, A.T.I, Mosako, HT, Steez, Dr Vom and Toni Tonez and eight other super hot artists then you have a killer line-up. Maun is the place to be this long weekend. For football lovers both Township Rollers and Mochudi Centre Chiefs will be there over the weekend and if you are visiting then Croc Camp will be the place to be on Sunday. Other acts include Apollo Diablo, Samba T, Real Magosi, Dj Bunz, T-Man, Cue, Chris Pounds and Dj Lefatshe. The show begins at 1400hrs until late and P50 gets you in.
KWAITO FASSION RELEASED
It takes guts for one to venture into a genre that has been technically announced dead by some of its pioneers.
I don’t think the king of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate has any plans to record a new album in the near future. Since the emergence of a new sound from Durban, Sghubu which was popular in Joburg has struggled in the market.
Sdolah wa Jahmun brings back the old beat, and I have to admit he is real good at it. His latest six track album titled Kwaito Fassion is as good as any. The first song Fetlha-Mathambo brings back memories of Mdu Masilela and Mandoza. Sdojah manages to fuse some ragga into his music on the track Strawberry where he features Blaster and Ras Biki. It is a good album from a real kwaito artist, but might struggle in the market with these new sounds from Nigeria, Zambia and Durban taking over. It gets 7 out of 10 points.
MATHAITHAI DROPS ALBUM
Mathaithai Kankane Traditional Dance Troupe will drop their debut album on 22 October titled ‘Malome nthute bongaka”.
Formed in 2009 by Onkemetse Monyere, the group released the hit single “Maruping” in the same year. The Gabane outfit recently created a facebook page Kankane unit-2011 campus. The page was named after the group’s stable whose aim is to nurture and market the abundant talent in Botswana specifically Gabane where they are based. They managed to shoot a live DVD for Kankane Unit Choir titled “Malala a laotswe”, another sign that they are a diverse stable that also caters for folk music. Also on the pipeline is a movie which will be shot next year.
“We have so much talent at our disposal and our aim is to explore it and take it to the people,” said Monyere.
POLICE & REVELLERS CLASH
It is that time again where law enforcers will be out in their numbers to keep order in our roads and entertainment venues.
With so much going on this coming weekend the men in uniform are in an uncompromising mood. Sadly in this country it is during weekends like these that local artists are able to make some money. Having already spent so
much advertising their shows it will be such a pity that revelers destined for these fun activities should become statistics on the road. Big Weekend which had a very big role in creating awareness about most of these shows does not tolerate recklessness. Let us all enjoy the Independence festivities responsibly and come back in one piece. Happy Independence.
