Caught in the act rapist beaten and ‘castrated’ by other man in victim’s bed
A suspected rapist got more than he bargained for when he was beaten to a pulp as he attempted to rape a woman in her house at Mabudutsa ward in Maun.
Gideon Marunga, 36, had his testicles smashed and his penis pulled and twisted by his victim’s male friend, who was sharing a bed with her when the rapist struck in the early hours of Monday morning.
The suspect was admitted to Letsholathebe Hospital under police escort where he underwent emergency surgery in an attempt to save his battered manhood.
Recalling the events of the night when his friend was raped, 24-year -old Onkutlwile Tirelo, who beat up the suspect, said that Marunga came to their house towards midnight enquiring about a neighbour’s whereabouts.
“I told him to go and check the women he was asking after at the house next door. After that we went to bed because we had partied hard that night.
“My deep sleep was interrupted by my friend screaming my name and asking what it was that had gotten into me since we had shared a bed so many times and I had never asked for sex before.”
Tirelo added: “My friend knows that I’m gay and she was shocked that I had suddenly decided to have sex with her when I am not attracted to women.
When Tirelo realised what was happening he immediately sprang into action to stop the attack.
“It was dark but I managed to get hold of his private parts which I squeezed and pulled as hard as I could.”
The neighbours heard the commotion and watched in amazement as the couple continued to attack the rapist as he tried to escape.
“We gave chase and outside in the moonlight we managed to identify the culprit as the man who had earlier asked about a neighbour. We beat him and I grabbed his private parts again and he fell down moaning. We then called the police but I thought he was dead because blood was oozing out from all over his body and his private parts were swollen,” Tirelo explained.
An eyewitness told of how the man was thoroughly beaten and had to fake his own death to survive. He added that it appeared he had undressed a distance away from his victim’s house and walked naked to commit the crime, as his clothes could not be found in the house when the police eventually took him away.
An okapi knife and some traditional herbs suspected to belong to the rapist, who neighbours described as “ a friend from the farms,” were found in the house.
“We later learnt that he sometimes sleeps over at the neighbours who were also his drinking pals,” Tirelo said.

Meanwhile a nurse at Letsholathebe hospital expressed doubts that Marunga’s penis would ever again function normally.
“His private parts are badly swollen. Although he still has to go to theatre for further assessment what I can tell you right now is that what happened to him is more like castration. He will be lucky to get his manhood to be sexually active again.”
Confirming the incident District No 5 Criminal Investigation Officer, Superintendent Alakanani David said: “Our investigations are on going while the suspect is being attended by doctors at the hospital. I cannot give out much detail on the matter at this stage except to say we will have to establish whether the 29-year-old victim and her friend caused Marunga’s injuries in self-defence as they have claimed.

I came across the story through my usual routine of browsing foreign tabloid newspaper.
As a foreigner and work in a case investigation dpt, am sure the historic heroism act of Mr Tirelo, cannot go go uncommendable AND simply he is good castrator i have ever came across.
But, the big question here is the whole episode and the HOW its occurence leave a lot to be desired.
I dont know the culture, the country and behavior. but how comes on earth we could believe the story of savior without listening the would be rapist!
