Village court magistrate, Ephraith Ndegwa has found a 40- year- old Gaborone man guilty of being in possession of two elephant tusks.
The convicted man, Phillip Sebego pleaded guilty to the charge of possession of government trophy on Wednesday this week.
Sebego’s four co accused, Isaac Sebego, Mohammad Pandor, Godfrey Khumomatlhare, Baemedi Bobeng and Phorego Gulubane pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Phillip however agreed to the facts of the case which were presented to him during court appearance on Wednesday this week. He concurred that on the 23rd of August 2012 at Gaborone bus rank with another accused person who was not before court, he was found illegally in possession of two elephant tusks which he was trying to sell.
The facts further revealed that the accused persons were later approached by the police officers who inquired about the goods they were carrying in a bag which Phillip revealed were elephant tusks that belonged to him.
The remaining accused persons will stand trial in yet to be set trial dates while Philip is yet to be sentenced. The tusks weighed 338.97g and valued at P4 000.00
