The 22- year- old accused man from Mathiba ward in Mmathethe was this week charged with defiling an under aged girl, a few weeks after the girl’s 58-year- old biological father who was initially accused of incest and defilement was exonerated by a DNA test.
Goodhope Police Station Commander, Thapelo Ngiye said the young man was expected to appear before court very soon.
“We are sending the case to the Directorate of Public Prosecution. After that the case will be registered with the court and that is when the mention and trial dates will be set,” Ngiye explained.
The unemployed young man who was suspected to have defiled and made the 14-year old school girl pregnant in 2009 was served on Monday.
Ngiye however did not want to discuss whether the DNA tests had implicated the accused man or not because discussing the evidence outside court would prejudice the case.
“I cannot detail the merits of the case. If you want more information on the matter, you would have to wait for the trial in court,” Ngiye said
Meanwhile weekly Police crime report has indicated that since 2010, two girls are being defiled per day around the country.
