AXE MAN: Mapeka
An axe wielding jealous lover who cracked his suspected rival’s skull with his weapon has pleaded for the court’s mercy.
Marks Mapeka, 24 went wild after brandishing the axe two months ago and chopped Teseletso Dichauto on the forehead twice for allegedly taking his girlfriend on a drinking spree.
After he was convicted on his plea of guilty, Mapeka asked the court to be lenient on him because he was the sole bread winner in his family.
He said: “If I am jailed for a long time my family is going to suffer because I am the one taking care for them.”
When he appeared in court this week, the axe man claimed that he nearly killed Dichauto because Dichauto had made his girlfriend drunk to the point where she couldn’t even feed their baby.
“I admit I attacked Teseletso because he took my girlfriend on a drinking spree. I became angry because he caused my child who does not breast feed to go without food for the whole day,” Mapeka said
He continued: “Initially I wanted to hit him with the handle of the axe but when it broke I chopped him on the head.”
Principal Magistrate Peggy Madandume however ordered Mapeka to be remanded in custody until Thursday when he was to be sentenced.
