Old man dies in train accident
A 94-year-old man from Sebina died at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital on Sunday morning after he was hit by a train while crossing the railway line.
Armando Mbimbi was hit by the train while crossing over to the bus rank where he was going to catch a bus to Sebina village. He was from Tati-siding where he had gone to visit his relatives.
Mbimbi’s shaken niece Margret Chuchu, spoke of how the old man stopped by her place in Francistown to drink tea early in the morning before he could proceed on his journey to Sebina.
“I don’t know how it all happened because I left him at my place at Somerset drinking tea, only to be called back from church and told about the accident. Although my uncle was rushed to the hospital for medical attention he later died of the injuries he sustained during the accident,”
His nephew Pauline Jamba said Mbimbi was going back to Sebina to get his monthly old age pension when the accident happened.
Kutlwano police station commander Motsholathebe Mothibi said it appears the accident occurred because the old man did not hear the train which was approaching from behind while he crossed the railway line.
He appealed to old people to avoid crossing the road alone.
