Selibi Phikwe Police are investigating a case in which a 42-year-old man committed suicide on Tuesday after he was charged with defilement.

The defilement charge was laid against the man from Distance Location in the mining town following his 13- year -old step daughter’s claims that he impregnated her.

She under went a pregnancy test and when the results came back indicating that she was four months pregnant the mother opened a case against the step dad.

Superintendent Victor Nlebesi confirmed the incident but did not go into details as the investigations were still on.

“We are investigating two cases of defilement and suicide . The case of defilement was opened against the deceased but we do not have any proof of whether he did make his step child pregnant because when police were on their way to confront him, the man hanged himself. It is difficult to conclude that it was him until the investigations are over.” Said Nlebesi
