Police have launched an extensive manhunt for a Tutume man who raped and stabbed a 30- year-old woman to death last weekend.
The woman, who lived alone at Matombomashaba a cattle-post, west of Tutume village, died at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital intensive care unit early this week.
A neighbour who preferred not to be named told The Voice in an interview that the woman was brutally attacked such that her stomach was ripped open.
“When we found the woman she could hardly speak probably because she lost a lot of blood after the attack. Although no one saw the culprit, people suspect a certain herdboy,” said the traumatised neighbour who reported the incident to the police after attending to the old woman’ screams for help.
Tutume police station commander, Vusumusi Jorowe however appealed to residents to help the police find the brutal rapist. He called upon people, especially women not to move alone or live alone warning that there are criminals on the prowl looking for vulnerable people to attack.
“The suspect in this case is still at large. The victim who was having difficulties in talking when the police arrived at the scene only managed to tell us that she was raped and stabbed by a man who then fled but couldnt describe her attacker in detail to us so any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspect is welcome.” Tutume police boss said.
