SEROWE/FOKOTSA DINO CAMPAIGN
This past weekend I was involved in the Fokotsa Dino Campaign in Serowe.
I must say it was such a successful event. It was bound to be with yours truly, Mmoloki ‘Smallboy’ Mothibi and Township Rollers FC gracing the event. People of Serowe were so amazed by the turn out. We arrived on a Friday although the main event started on Saturday with a walk in the morning.
Smallboy was the MC, whereas my task was to spread the message of responsible drinking especially amongst the youth. In the afternoon Township Rollers were involved in a friendly game against Miscellaneous. On Sunday morning Miscellaneous Masterstreated fans to a social match. I’m honoured to have been part of the event thanks to Mme Mma Motsokono for the successful event.
The Molefhi Senior event that I was supposed to attend was postponed until further notice.
1ST DIVISION DEBSWANA SPONSORSHIP
It’s so much of a relief for the 1st division to have acquired the Debswana sponsorship to the tune of P6million over a period of 3years.
This league has been running without a sponsor for a long time but still managed to produce some of the best players, who have gone on to become stars in the Premier League. Some youngsters from these teams are already knocking on the senior national team doors.
The national team has left for Kenya en-route to Mali with quite a strong team. With the likes of Jerome and the most experienced Marumo back in the team I believe we are ready for Mali. The team is well balanced with
experience and youth.
It was just unfortunate that Phenyo Mongala could not travel with the team due to a hamstring injury. I wish him and the boys well in their match against Mali. GO BOYS
JOMO MUM ON TRANSFER
I was with my boy Jomo Moatlhaping last week and I asked him with brotherly concern which team he will be playing for this season, but he told me very little – he just said he is still weighing up his options and will let me know as soon as he puts pen to paper.
You will be the first to know my dear reader. On another note let me remind Mjomana that he will always be welcome at Chiefs. Think about it hommie.
UNDER-17 TEAM ARE CHAMPS
Our national Under-17 football team won a Four Nations Tournament last week organised here in Botswana at the Molepolole Sports Complex.
The teams included Mozambique, Swaziland and Namibia and they beat both three teams 2-1. Swaziland were disqualified for bringing over age players but were still allowed to play with their results having no bearing on the overall tournament results. Well-done young blood.
MARCO TSHUMA HOSPITALISED
It is so sad to hear news that one of Gaborone United and Botswana football legends MarcoTshuma has been hospitalised back home in Zimbabwe after a stroke.
He was part of the most successful GU side of the early 90’s which had the likes of Patrick Zibochwa, Mandla Balandla, City Senne, Raizor Tsatsilebe just to name a few. Let’s all pray for him.
We heard with shock the unexpected resignation of the Botswana Football Association Chief Executive Officer Mr Duncan Kgame.
Though it was totally out of the blue for most of us I believe we should respect the man’s decision. I hope BFA will move swiftly and fill the vacant position.
VIOLA THE COWARD
I saw one of Botswana’s football veterans and former Zebras team mate Nelson ‘Viola’Gabolwelwe cruising on the Western-by-pass and I horned at him only for him to jump up and nearly drop his phone in shock.
Seeing him reminded me of our days with him at Zebras, all the funny jokes and silly things he used to do with another veteran Khumo’Shoes’ Motlhabani. They once found one of the then Zebras officials taking a nap in his car
with the windows rolled down. They put their hands through the window and pressed the horn so hard the poor guy jumped up and hit the roof of the car with his head. They ran away laughing. These guys were so unbelievably naughty. National team camp was never a bore when they were around.TOP LADS
