A 36- year- old woman from Matshelagabedi died on Monday after she set herself ablaze following a dispute with her husband.
According to sources close to the family the woman committed suicide after a misunderstanding with her husband regarding his mistress.
The woman’s husband who works in the neighbouring South Africa is said to have ignored his wife when she confronted him about his alleged mistress.
Feeling betrayed and ignored despite raising a serious concern the woman allegedly doused herself with petrol before setting herself alight.
Although she was taken to Matshelagabedi clinic where she was immediately rushed to Nyangabwe referral hospital in Francistown the woman later died on Monday due to injuries caused by the fire.
Matsiloje acting Police Station commander, Inspector Abel Matlhapi, confirmed that his officers were investigating the shocking incident which was the first of its kind to occur in his area.
“We understand the woman committed suicide and we are still trying to establish what could have led her to take her own life,” Matlhapi said.
Nyangabwe Hospital Superintendent Caiphus Gabana confirmed the tragic incident and revealed that a patient who was admitted with serious fire burns died in Hospital early this week.
