This could perhaps be the hottest team to ever grace our local screens, both in looks and television appeal. The duo of Pako “Pacman” Matlhare and the stunning Thamani Thote will grace local screens every Tuesday evening to present the popular ‘Voice Lucky Newspaper” beat where thousands of pulas are won every week. Voice reporter Kabelo Dipholo had a chat with them individually for a sneak peek of what the pair has up their sleeves.

LUCKY PAIR OUT TO MAKE BATSWANA RICH

Well they say ladies first. Would you kindly introduce yourself?

I’m a 25 year old entrepreneur from Nswazwi village. I’m very full of life and always ready to tackle any form of challenges thrown at me.

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?

I wake up to a strong cup of coffee to get me going. Usually I start my day with a meeting and then spend the rest of the day promoting my brand. My business is time consuming, I spend most of my time responding to e-mails and generally dealing with customers.

What is the nature of your business?

It is called Pro Boago Agency (PBA). The business basically is about recruiting temporary staff for other businesses. I started it during my third year at UB, after realizing that there were many students looking for temporary employment and together with my business partner we set up this platform to target such a market especially students. So if you are in need of temporary labour for whatever we are the right people to talk to.

This sounds like a great business idea, are you sure this was all yours?

Well I have to admit that I have been very fortunate to come from a business minded family. My parents used to leave the house at ridiculously early hours and return back home at around 11 at night. As a primary school student I used to work at one of their shops during my spare time and was hit by the business bug from that tender age. The trend continued while I was at UB, I used to have a lot of spare time and together with my friend and now business partner who luckily has a similar background we came up with this idea.

What else are you involved in?

About five months ago we launched Premier Virgin Hair. We buy this hair from Asia and distribute it to salons.  This is not just any other hair, it is top quality and we don’t just buy it and sell. We want to make this a brand, I want it to have personal touch and I know there are not many self branded products in the country. Virgin hair is my real baby. I love looking good and I believe my greatest accessory is my hair. Life is too short for one to be looking miserable.

From what you have just told me may I assume that you are a business graduate?

No actually I have Psychology Degree. It has helped me to learn more about people and different personalities; it is more like Human Resource.

Now you will be a co-presenter of the Lucky Newspaper show on television. Are you excited?

I have never been on TV and I just love the idea of presenting the show.  I have never thought I have the guts to do it but after a few rehearsals I’m ready to go. This is an opportunity to grow as an individual and a good PR for my business… (laughs).

What do you think about your co-host?

I have learnt a lot from him. He knows what he is doing and the whole team has just been amazing.

I have to admit you are sizzling hot. How do you feel about a Page 3 photo shoot?

(Laughs). I have nothing against Page 3, but I just don’t have the guts to do it, I however admire the guts of all the Page 3 girls.

You are going to be on the spotlight and people will ask a lot of questions so let’s clear this once and for all. Are you dating?

I’m as single as a dollar bill. My life is crazy right now, I just feel it won’t be fair for whoever I would be dating because I have decided to be a bit selfish and focus on my business the right time will come.

What excites you?

Life in general. Every day when I wake up it gives me an opportunity to better myself.

Please introduce yourself. Who is Pako?

Pako Vicent Matlhare aka Pacman (Big Daddy) is a young Motswapong/Mopedi from Lerala. I’m a down to earth type of guy who loves people and being happy.

You have been in media industry for quite some time; please give a brief history on your career.

I started radio in 1999 at Christian radio station Transworld in New York Albany. I came back to Botswana in 2000 and joined Gabz FM. In 2002 I left them and became Marketing Manager for Media Holdings for a year. In 2003 I joined RB2 as Pacman presenting the Midday Jams. When Duma FM started in 2007 I joined as the Programmes Manager until 2010 when I rejoined Gabz FM. It has not been simple because media is all about being the best and giving your best.

As one of the first presenters of the Lucky Newspaper show, how would you describe the experience?

It has been lovely because TV is also part of my career so it opened another level for me and I’m working with the best team.

Briefly share with the readers what this new show will bring.

There will be lots of entertainment, prices and money to be won, and it’s as simple as this. Get yourself a copy of The Voice News paper, then sms your lucky number which will be on the news paper on Tuesday before noon and stand a chance to win these prizes. Remember part of the money goes to charity.

Two words that describes your new co-host.
