Botswana Defence Force 2 Infantry Brigade hosted Zimbabwe National Army in sports bilateral games over the weekend. BDF won in only two sports codes volleyball and netball while ZNA won endurance, football to become the overall winners.
The theme of the event was ‘Embracing bilateral military co-operation to strengthen sub regional defence and security.
Speaking at the event, 2 Infantry Brigade Commander, Brigadier Seikano said these games give the two forces an opportunity to interact and strengthen their cooperation. He said they also build a relation to ensure that they realize collective defence and security in the SADC sub region.
“Interaction through sports also inculcates discipline and it also develops networks. Together we form a big family which can pool its resources together for the defence and security of Africa. We must continue to work closely as we strive to address the common defence related challenges faced by our nations,” said Seikano.
He said these games build confidence, cultivate the winning spirit and aggression. Seikano further said it is BDF commitment to work with ZNA to ensure that the cooperation between the two defence forces is nurtured for the benefit of their countries.
No 1 Infantry Brigade Brigadier General Thomas Moyo said bilateral games are crucial for this two defence forces as they help build cooperation, respect and team work. He also said it establishes and maintains harmonious relations.
“We did not come here to compete but to interact and exchange ideas with a view of creating permanent friendships and a common understanding through sport. I would like to thank our host for successfully organizing the games for this year as a mandate by the Botswana/Zimbabwe joint permanent commission on Defence Public Security,” he said.
