TOWNSHIP MUSIC NIGHT
This is going to be one of the busiest weekends in the country.
It’s a pay week and loaded city slickers will be out for some fun. If you are into township music, then you have a date and the venue is Zoom Nite Club in Maruapula. The show that will feature some of the country’s heavyweights mainly from the Heavensent Production starts from 9pm till 1 O’Clock in the morning.
For P20 one gets to see the most requested artist on radio Drama Boi, Legare, Greedy Skillz, Tshepi D, Leroza, Yung N’ Slow, Dj Rex-rated R, Six and Ten Beats. This one will be a full house, see you at the club.
CULTURE SPEARS GOES JAZZ
Well not literally.
The top selling traditional album will team up with Johnny Mokhali, Charma Gal, Tripple R, Mc Sporo and Dj Jive More for two shows this weekend. Culture Spears will be playing live and they will test their
instruments on Saturday at Jazz Brew in Ramotswa.
The group which recently performed in USA will play at the Millenium Jazz Restaurant on Sunday accompanied by the same line-up.Culture Spears front man Kabelo Mogwe excitedly told Big Weekend that they expect people to turn up in large numbers to watch them play live for the first time.
“We want feedback from our fans. We want them to tell us where we should improve because we intend to perform live music forever,” he said. Both shows starts at 4pm and are charged at P50 and P100 respectively.
BALLS ‘N CIRCUMCISION
Maikano Youth Wellness Organisation has mobilised men and would host an edutainment activity of “five – aside male circumcision games”.
Private, government sectors and social clubs will participate in these games where the message of zero infection by 2016 will be spread throughout the day. This campaign is also meant to educate audiences and participants about safe male circumcision and what men need to know and do after circumcision.
The games take place this Saturday at the Bank of Botswana Grounds. All teams participating will include two ladies, that’s is four men and one lady will make up a complete team.
MANDASH SPEAKS
It is one of those albums that will leave your head spinning because there is too much of everything.
You go through some Afro Pop and when still struggling with your second opinion about the song, the next one is a beautiful gospel tune, followed by a Sghubu tune. This is a all in one album. Mandash is no newcomer to the local music scene; he is a 2002 My African Dream finalist and was part of the Demolition Crew.
He dropped his debut album Triple T in 2010, which had the song “Real Deal” which featured massively on Btv. The new 12 track album “Emang ka dinao” recorded at DiD Rhuu’s Music is a great leap from 2010 in terms of quality of sound and singing.
My favorite songs are Ngena nathi, Mandash and the title track. Iketsetse will also take you back to the days of ‘Homeboy’ and ‘Thiba’ when Cee Bee ruled the airwaves. Other songs include Stokvel sa kasi, Zebras, Meropa, Come and dance and Monna ga a lele. The album gets 6 out of 10.
WHO RUNS THE STREETS?
Hip hop in this country has reached a whole new level.
It s no longer about putting rhyming words like rat, pat and bat together and running to the studios. These cats do really want to create something` and through the involvement of brands like Mafia Soul who perhaps have embraced the financial aspect of the genre more than anyone in this country, the dream is within reach.
The dream as put by the Executive Producer Eureka, is too see this mixtape producing stars, the same way P-Side mix tape did for guys like Scar and Kast. We run the streets Mixtape Volume 1 is out. With 24 super hot artists on one CD, what can more can one ask for? This one is on a class of its own, could have been right from that noisy American label; Young Money.
The songs were recorded by Francois and Nephew at Bang!Gae Studios and mixed by T-Les except track 10 which was recorded by Leeroy at Virgin Brew and Mixed by Goof. Now with ATI, Drama Boi, Bone C, Ozi, Tshepi D, Eureka, Luz Kat, Extra Fly, Ryan Blaze, Remy Choppa Mayne, Willz, Nina, D-Rapand Chello on the album, it’s a no brainer; cash some money and get a copy. The album gets 8 out of 10.
