Voters voice their thoughts on candidates ahead of by-election
Voice Staffer, Chenjelani Baraedi on Wednesday conducted a vox pop in Monarch West to find out who was the preferred candidate for the Francistown high density area.
Dingalo Malapi said:
“The BPP is going to win because the ruling party and the BCP are both plagued by factions.
With the umbrella support and the support we expect to get from the factions of our two opponents, we will come out of these elections like five parties put together.
While the BDP is using dirty tricks buying electorates with T-shirts and money we are not even bothered because they don’t stand a chance.
Kaelo’s limited education is a clear sign that the guy is only good for the VDC but not the council. As for BCP’s Majumane, he should simply apply for a youth grant and stop toying around with people.
Thabani is the right candidate because he is educated and has a back ground in law, which would help to him challenge and analyse issues effectively during council deliberations.
Gift Keaitse Said:
“Botswana Congress Party has done its ground work and I am confident that we are going to perform favourably this time around.
While we are doing well campaign wise, the voters roll seems to be confusing making me to suspect some foul play from the ruling party.
Despite this fact I am however convinced when looking at the response from people that the race is between the BDP and us only, while the umbrella lags behind.
And unless the BDP uses its usual dirty tricks, the area is likely to be ours.”
Masego Pule said:
“BDP has a big chance of winning the bye-election because opposition parties are divided.
Kaelo is a well known resident of Monarch and he is mature enough to represent the area compared to other candidates who are either new comers or too young for politics.
If people really need a person who knows and understands the problems of Monarch, truly speaking Kaelo is the sole heir to Jack’s seat.
The man is a Good Samaritan who has been working with residents of Monarch for ages unlike other characters who recently sprang out of the woodworks to look for a job as politicians.”
David Tapela said:
“Surely there is no need to waste money on a campaign because people know that Godfrey Kaelo is the right man for the area.
The guy has worked with most structures while a member of the VDC which makes him an ideal representative for the people of Monarch.
Thabani is just a stranger looking for a job in the area and he is even afraid to talk to some of us because he does not know anything about the location and its needs.
We don’t even know where he stays to start with. I don’t want to talk much about BCP’ s Majumane except so say he is a bit of a joke.
Those who know him well will tell you that to vote for him will be to do so at your own risk.”
Lechani Muzila said:
“Although you can’t trust a human being to keep a promise, Botswana Congress Party has all the assurance and confidence of winning the coming bye election.
Our candidate was born and brought up in the area and therefore knows our needs.
I don’t want to talk about the umbrella representative because we hardly know him but as for Kaelo from the BDP, people have long shunned him although he also stays in Monarch.
He failed us while he was with the VDC so it would be a great risk to try him at council level. If people elect him it would be both a shock and a miracle to me.”
