- Tribute to imprisoned Ditiro Leero
Local traditional music artists Moses ‘Shumba Ratshega’ Malapela and Mponang Ketshabile aka Gong Master are currently working on an album which will hit the shelves soon.
The album is dedicated to another artist Ditiro Leero who was recently sentenced to six years in jail for raping a 14-year-old in 2006.
Ditiro became the second artist in a space of two years to find themselves on the wrong side of the law, after another Deben Natale was condemned to 10 year prison life also for a sex related charge. The current development has prompted Botswana Musicians Union leadership to be vigilant in the way they interact with their fans.
Artist were bluntly told to, learn to keep it in the pants. Northern revelers were up for a treat as Gong Master and Shumba shared the stage over the weekend in Francistown. They were the first to hear the new combination featuring the hit ‘Morwa Leero.’ It addresses the confusion many people faced after DT’s sentence.
Shumba Ratshega said DT has really frustrated him as he was contributing a lot to the music music industry. He said he was like a brother to him and he was very disappointed and hurt by the way things turned out.
“I and Gong Master decided to form a combination which will express our disappointment and sympathy.
This is not for the first time local artist face this kind of charge. It reflects back to a case of another artist Otlaathusa Tshipa aka Deben Natale who also went to jail for 10 years after being found guilty of rape in 2009. This really affect our business, people should trust us and feel free when they attend our night shows.” Said Ratshega
