TRIMMED: Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri
Assistant Minister of Health, Gaotlhaetse Matlhabaphiri has revealed that he is circumcised amidst allegations that he had unprotected sex with another man’s wife.
He allegedly told the woman in question that he could not expose her to sexually transmitted diseases as he did not have a foreskin.
Matlhabaphiri, 62 made the revelation outside Extension II Magistrate court last week Thursday where he was summoned to explain whether he had an affair with Simon Tafi’s wife.
“Of course I have done it. I cannot promote something that I have not done. it,” said Matlhabaphiri in reference to the campaign on safe male circumcision.
Asked how Tafi, the aggrieved man, came to know that he was circumcised, Matlhabaphiri said the 46-year old man could have been guessing because he knew that he was leading the campaign on safe male circumcision.
Matlhabaphiri who is also a Member of Parliament for Molepolole North, denied ever having an affair with Tafi’s wife, Mmaonene Tafi, 39, who is his former housemaid.
He told the court that his relation with the woman was never beyond that of employer – employee type.
Matlhabaphiri was defending himself against Tafi’s allegations raised during the assault case leveled against Tafi by the state. Tafi admitted stricking his wife on the head with a rod and assaulting his mother in law in a fit of rage after the wife boasted of her alleged affair with the Minister.
The court then summoned Matlhabaphiri to explain his part in the assault.
Judgment on Tafi’s assault case would be delivered on July 26, 2012.
