A 24 -year old man died recently after he was run over by a truck that he had hidden in with the hope of gaining free access to a show in Francistown where popular South African artist, Zahara was performing.
The deceased, Thato Rasengwaketsi hid at the back of the extra heavy duty truck which was going to the showgrounds where Zahara was performing hoping that he would be able to get in without paying.
“But when the driver of the truck reached the check point, he was stopped by the gate keepers, and told that he had run over a person” said an eyewitness to the incident who suspects that the man was fatally injured when he jumped out of the truck in fear of being caught during the search.
Francistown Central Police station commander, Superintendent Cyprian Magalela confirmed the incident and revealed that the deceased was an unofficial passenger of the truck. “We are investigating a case where 24- year- old man was involved in an accident in the early hours of Sunday May 27. The deceased was not known to the driver and his passenger. He died at the hospital that same day”, said
Asked whether the victim was drunk at the time when he met his demise Magalela said:
“Our priority at that time was to rush him to the hospital with the hope of saving his life, so I can not say whether he was under the influence of alcohol or not,”
The deceased was buried last weekend in his home village of Matsiloje.
