Police in Francistown are in search of a reckless driver who ran over a 60-year-old pedestrian and killed him.
The unidentified hit and run culprit who was driving a BMW allegedly drove-over the old man wh ile he was lying on the road soon after he was hit by another car.
The second car completely crashed his head, killing him instantly. Instead of stopping to help his victim, the man drove away at high speed and disappeared in the darkness of the night, police have revealed.
Kwakiutl Police traffic officer in Francistown, Sergeant Opelo Olebile, said anyone who has information regarding the accident and the whereabouts of the driver who is believed to have caused the death of the old man, should alert the police. “We are still questioning the first driver to knock the old man down but we also call upon members of the public to help us find the other driver who ran away after hitting and killing the victim from Somerset location,” Olebile said explaining that the accident happened at around 9 pm.
The traffic officer warned pedestrians to be always on the look out for on coming vehicles especially when crossing the A1 road which has proved to be infested with over speeding drivers in the evening. “People should also dress in bright colours so that they can be identified from a distance,” he said.

The old man could have been killed by the first driver. Yo mongwe o ne a netefatsa gore o sule. Officer how can you prove that the old man died from the second crash? Gongwe o ne a ntse a sule kgotsa a tsile go swa. Lona ba di BMW le tla a re fetsa.
Tragic story. We can never know who caused the death of this gentleman. Both drivers are at fault. They were both reckless. After the first car hit the man, there should have been hazards and road block at the scene.Especially if he stopped. Why was that not done? The second driver was the most dangerous, because he just drove past the scene of the accident endangering everyone around including the dead or dying.
It is irresponsible thing to do and if he is caught, he must lose his license for many years.
I totally disagree with this attitude that pedestrians are always at fault. The person in the car is the one who needs to be more careful. He is in possession of a dangerous tool. It just like telling civilians on the street to be careful when armed soldiers are patrolling the streets.Actually the soldiers are the one who must be careful. Drivers have a responsibility to protect the pedestrians by driving slowly and carefully, looking around to avoid these kinds of accidents. If we are going to tolerate and not shun these kinds of incidents, next time drivers will just go into school grounds and maul our kids down. After all the police will just tell the kids to look out for dangerous drivers. Not the other way round.
