The 2006 Botswana National Sports Council’s Sports Man and Sports Person of the year award winner Herbet Nkabiti will compete in the World Boxing Union (WBU) international title fight which will be staged in Gaborone in July. The host of the fight is Botswana professional boxer Kgotla Baeti.
Speaking to Voice Sport this week, Nkabiti said he is fit and ready to fight the German boxer hose identity is yet to be revealed. He said his preparations have been going well and is just waiting for the organizers to announce the name of his opponent.
“This is my first title fight and I will fight with everything I have to win it. I urge Batswana to attend the fight in large numbers to watch a professional bout and give me support. My opponent is yet to be announced but that will not disturb my preparations, I am always ready for any fight.
On the 15th July I will go for camping in South Africa because there are some professional boxers who can help with my preparations. I appeal to companies and individuals to support me financially so that I can organize friendly bouts,” said Nkabiti.
The 2007 Presidential award winner has a 100 percent record. He has amazingly won all his seven professional bouts through a KO. He resigned from Botswana Defence Force in 2007 destined for Tolzmen Boxing Club in the USA but complications in obtaining a visa meant his place was taken up by another boxer.
In 2009 he then went to South Africa to join BRD Boxing Academy.
Nkabiti is one of the most decorated local boxers who has represented the country at many international competitions.
